About the work:

If my artistic practice could be described as a functional machine it would be a loom weaving psychology, physically history and fantasy to form a map. This map would be an access point and activation center for the audience and myself to enter a reflective space; questioning the universal truths that are patterned throughout the world. Visual meditations on an These truths are composed into poetries inspired by the iconography of spiritual art. As a mixed race person my influences are an amalgamation of cultural traditions spanning indigenous Caribbean Taínos, European and Yoruba peoples. This has marked my existence to be a great synthesizer of these identities in order to understand my own history and that of the environments that shape me. My work has always drawn heavily on the non-physical and the occult. Throughout my career I have retained the notion that painting is a ritual to which I receive spiritual guidance, circumnavigating the tides of mental health. Each visual code a tarot like divination with erotic color compositions that untangle identity. Often the expressions of the bodies are promiscuous in their ambiguity of emotions; sometimes reimagined histories are depicted as allegorical scenes of contorted hybrids - the barriers of space and body dissolve to create a nebulous abstract-figuration that can be read from multiple directions. Much like we exist between many states, my work reflects the human experience that is of a pendulum swinging between the physical and energetic, the masculine and feminine.
